GU vacation now from May 9 to June 23

Ahmedabad: Gujarat University on Wednesday announced its revised summer vacation schedule following demands from teachers who have been assigned election duty. The dates have been revised to May 9–June 23 from May 1–June 15 earlier.

The teachers associated with the Gujarat University Adhyapak Mandal had been complaining that since they have been assigned poll duty till May 7, they will not be able to go on a vacation from May 1. Earlier, Gujarat Technological University (GTU) had also changed summer vacation period from May 1–June 15 to May 9–June 26 following protests from teachers at govt technical colleges affiliated with the university.

Sources said the change in the academic calendar defeats the purpose of newly implemented Gujarat Public Universities Act 2023. According to sources, one of the aims of the regulation is to systematize exams, academic terms and vacation schedules. Despite the law in place, universities are making changes in their schedules as per their liking, the sources said.
