Royalty inspector demands bribe from sand contractor, booked

Vadodara/Narmada: A royalty inspector with geology and mining department and a hotel manager were booked by the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) in Narmada district for accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 from a sand contractor on Friday.

According to the ACB sleuths, the complainant used to pick sand from Narmada river bank in Poicha village and transport it to Rajpipla in Narmada district.

The complainant told the ACB that royalty inspector Deepak Sanvariya called him on WhatsApp and accused him of taking a truck filled with sand without paying the royalty. Sanvariya told the complainant that if he seizes his truck, he would have to pay Rs 2.75 lakh penalty. Sanvariya then asked the complainant to give pay him Rs 1 lakh for not taking action.

The complainant told Sanvariya that he didn’t have that much cash and promised to pay Rs 60,000. Sanvariya asked the complainant to give the money to Qamiyab Ali Seliya, manager at V R Hotel on Friday. The complainant then approached the ACB which laid a trap at the hotel and caught Seliya accepting the bribe on behalf of Sanvariya.
