NEW DELHI: The price of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder was hiked yet again by Rs 25 on Wednesday, news agency ANI reported.
This is the second hike undertaken by oil marketing companies (OMCs) within the last one month and the third in less than less months. On August 17, prices were increased by Rs 25 taking the cost of a 14.2 kg cylinder to Rs 859.5 a piece in Delhi.
The price revision comes into effect from September 1 itself.

With the latest revision, price of 14.2 kg subsidised as well as non-subsidised LPG cylinder in Delhi now costs Rs 884.5 apiece in Delhi.

Price of 19 kg commercial cylinder has also been hiked by Rs 75, taking up the price to Rs 1,693 apiece in Delhi.
Similarly, price of 14.2 kg cylinder now costs Rs 911 in Kolkata, Rs 884.5 in Mumbai and Rs 900.5 in Chennai.
LPG prices are mostly revised in the beginning of every month. The price of cooking gas has been increased by Rs 190 per cylinder in the last eight months.

Consumers have to pay the market price and the government is supposed to give subsidy to domestic consumers covered under the subsidy.

The government policy provides for the supply of 12 cylinders of 14.2-kg each per household at subsidised or below-market rates. Any quantity over this had to be bought at market price or non-subsidised rates.
However, monthly price increases have eliminated the subsidy. These monthly increases led to the elimination of subsidies by May 2020.
Barring a few far-flung areas, which get a small portion of freight subsidy, the price of subsidised and non-subsidised LPG in major cities is almost at par.
The price of domestic cooking gas has more than doubled in the last seven years. The retail selling price of domestic gas was Rs 410.5 per 14.2-kg cylinder on March 1, 2014.
Meanwhile, OMCs reduced the pump price of petrol and diesel after keeping it static for the past seven days.
Petrol and diesel prices were cut by 15 paise per litre to Rs 101.34 and Rs 88.77 a litre respectively in Delhi. In Mumbai, it is priced at Rs 107.39 per litre. Diesel price in Delhi is now at Rs 88.77 a litre in Mumbai at Rs 96.33.
Across the country as well fuel prices were cut between 15-20 paise per litre but their retail rates varied depending on the level of local taxes in each state.
