Crimes against women on the rise: Congress
Ahmedabad: There has been an increase in crimes against women and children in the country and Gujarat over the past decade, said the Congress party on Monday.
Quoting data from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), media convener Manish Doshi told mediapersons at the GPCC headquarters that 33,93,294 crimes against women have been registered in the country in the past nine years.
He added that 75,499 of these took place in Gujarat.
“In the past nine years, there have been 5,560 cases of rapes and 33,000 cases of crimes against children registered in the state,” he said.
Doshi added that 97 custodial deaths have been reported in Gujarat between 2016 and 2022, and there has been no conviction in any of these cases.
“These figures go on to show that BJP govts in the state and at the Centre have failed in checking crimes,” he said.
