Gandhinagar:
BJP MLA Jayesh Radadiya won the for the post of director of IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertilizer Cooperative Ltd) held in Delhi on Thursday.
Radadiya won the election with the support of IFFCO chairman Dilip Sanghani, even as state BJP had given the mandate to Bipin Patel who is also known by the name Bipin ‘Gota’.
Of the 182 eligible voters, 180 cast their vote in the election for the post of one director of IFFCO.
While 113 votes were polled in favour of Jayesh Radadiya, Bipin Patel got 67 votes.
Although Bipin Patel had received the mandate from the state party, Radadiya, did not withdraw his nomination for the post of director representing Gujarat. With strong support from representatives of Saurashtra based cooperatives and IFFCO chairman, Radadiya emerged victorious.
The election result stirred tension between BJP state president C R Paatil and Sanghani who is a senior BJP leader from Saurashtra and an ex-minister of cooperatives, agriculture and law and justice in the BJP government in the state between 2007-2012. Paatil in a video said that “certain people courted different parties in the name of cooperation and caused damage to the BJP.”
Sanghani countered this. Talking to TOI, Sanghani said: “Both candidates were from the BJP. The election was held in a transparent manner and it will further strengthen the cooperative movement.”
