Nature lovers take out funeral procession of trees cut illegally
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: To protest against the felling of trees, a group of nature lovers from Latur carried out a funeral procession of a tree.
The members of NGO “Green Latur” garlanded a portion of trees that were cut illegally, put in into an open vehicle and carried out the funeral processsion from Hanuman Mandir area of the city till the Latur Municipal Corporation (LMC) office.

The aim of the march was to highlight illegal cutting of trees by the state power utility. “MSEDCL is cutting tress on the pretect of it obstructing the overhead cables. No permission was sought for felling down the trees,” Pawan Ladda of the NGO said.
“Despite several complaints to the civic body, they are taking no action. Hence, we decided to take out funeral procession as a form of protest,” he added.
“When we carried the funeral procession to the local municipal corporation, no official came to take our memorandum. On the contrary, civic authorities warned of taking action for holding agitation during the election period,” Ladda said.
Authorities from the Garden Department of the Latur Municipal Corporation could not be reached for comments.
