BENGALURU: The SSLC 2024 pass results trudged to 73.4% this time, mainly on the back of grace-marks booster shot given by the state govt after the actual pass percentage collapsed to 54, a 30-point drop from previous year's 84.
The drastic fall in results - attributed largely to strict, live surveillance at all exam centres to restore exam integrity - forced the govt to take up a "normalization process" in the interest of students: The qualifying marks for attracting grace marks was reduced from 35% to 25%, and grace marks was increased from 10% to 20% in all subjects.

Ankita Basappa Konnur from Moraji Desai Residential School, Mudhol, Bagalkot district, became the only student to secure 625 on 625 this year. Seven students secured the next big score of 624 and 14 students 623. Regaining its lost glory, Udupi bounced from 14th slot last year to the top of the table this time. Dakshina Kannada was the second, after lying at 17th position last year. Shivamogga was at No. 3 from 28th last time.
Curative teaching for next 1 month
SSLC pass % falls 30pts to 54%, 20 grace marks take it to 73.4%

Nearly 8.6 lakh students took the class 10 state-board exam; around 1.5 lakh received grace marks. Boys' pass percentage dropped by 14 percentage points, while that of girls was down by seven. In rural areas, the passes dipped by 13% and in urban areas by 7%.
While the department felt teachers and students will be better prepared for the new system next year and enhanced normalization will not be necessary, it said it will take up curative teaching in the next one month for students who haven't done well in exam-1 and want to improve their marks for the second exam.
