Bhopal: In an interesting turn of events, an absconding murder accused who was caught after 25 years of the case escaped from the clutches of police by jumping off a moving train in Bhopal on Sunday. But his joy was short-lived, as he was soon arrested by the Chhola police.
SHO Chhola Suresh Chandra Nagar said that the accused Uttam Kumar, 50, a resident of Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, had robbed and killed his employer in Gujarat in 1999 and has been absconding ever since.
The police team from Jetpur, Gujarat nabbed the accused in Chitrakoot and were taking him to Gujarat by a train.
When the train reached the outer area of Bhopal railway station in Chhola and slowed down, the accused told the cops that he was feeling sick. As the police loosened his handcuffs, he jumped off the train and fled.
Gujarat police immediately informed the Bhopal police control room about the incident. Chhola police then started the investigation and caught the accused hiding in bushes in a forest near Coach Factory.
He was then handed over back to Gujarat police and they took him to their state.
