Chandigarh: The body of a special police officer (SPO) of Haryana Police was found in the
forest area just 100 yards away from the Sector 56 police post in the early hours of Tuesday. The victim, who was wearing police uniform, had been bludgeoned with a heavy stone. His head and face were completely crushed. The victim has been identified as Ajit, 46, a resident of Jujhar Nagar, Mohali.

This is the tenth murder reported in the city in four months. Three murder cases remain unsolved so far. Police officials said that they did not find the victim’s mobile phone, wallet or bike from the scene of the crime. A case of murder was registered against unidentified persons. Police also claimed to have identified one of the accused and assured that the murderers would be arrested soon.
A woman from the area noticed the body when she went to feed stray dogs in the forest area at around 6am. People gathered when she raised an alarm and informed the police control room. On receiving information, SHO, Maloya DSP Charanjit Singh, teams of the district crime cell and crime branch reached the spot. A forensics team also collected evidence from the site. Police said that the stone used to bludgeon the SPO was found near the body. However, they suspect that the victim was strangled before. Scrutinizing CCTV cameras in the area, police saw footage of the victim with two men between 2.30am and 3.30am. Police said that one of the suspects has been identified and raids are on at his possible hideouts to nab him.
