CHENNAI: A car went up in flames in Minjur on the outskirts of Chennai on Friday afternoon. No one was injured in the accident, said police.
The car was registered in the name of Kumar,74, of Arani. His relative Nithya, 70, of Vellore, and her family were on their way to Minjur to meet a relative. When they reached Theradi Street in Minjur, the occupants of the car noticed smoke emanating from the vehicle.
They stopped the vehicle and got down to inspect.
Soon, the vehicle went up in flames. Police and
Tamil Nadu fire and rescue service (TNFRS) personnel were informed.
Fire fighters from Ponneri, TNFRS station headed by station officer Sampath rushed to the spot and doused the flames.
A short circuit is suspected be the reason behind the accident.
