Chennai police book Savukku Shankar on charges of forging documents, circulating wrong info

CHENNAI: The cybercrime wing of Chennai police have registered a case against YouTuber Savukku Shankar based on a complaint filed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).
Police sources said Shankar had generated forged documents pertaining to Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminus in Kilambakkam and circulated wrong information among the public.
The CMDA had given a police complaint pertaining to the same earlier.
The cybercrime wing of city police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) has filed a case under IPC sections 466 (forgery of a record of a court of justice or of a registrar of births, etc), 465 (punishment for forgery), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 474 (having possession of document described in section 466 or 467, knowing it to be forged and intending to use it as genuine) read with section 420 (cheating).
Meanwhile, personnel from the Palanichettipatti police station in Theni conducted searches in Shankar’s office in T Nagar and his house in Maduravoyal on Friday.
The searches were carried out in connection with cases filed under the NDPS Act and the Women Harassment Act along with other sections by the Palanichettipatti police.
The Madhuravoyal thasildar was present during the raid at his house. “We needed his permission and presence to open the locked house,” said a police officer.
So far, Shankar has been arrested in five cases filed in Coimbatore, Theni and Chennai while a few more cases have been registered against him in various parts of the state.
The two cases from Chennai were registered against him based on complaints by Tamizhar Munnetra Padai president Veeralakshmi and a woman journalist.
Shankar is expected to be produced before the Egmore court by Chennai cybercrime police.
