Chennai: An eight-member gang hacked a 22-year-old history-sheeter to death at his house in Tondiarpet on Friday night. The deceased, M Anand, worked as an autorickshaw driver and lived with his wife, Roja, 20, at Sivaji Nagar, Tondiarpet, a few kilometers away from their parents' house in Nehru Nagar, police said.
On Friday night, his three-month-pregnant wife left to a nearby shop to buy groceries when an eight-member gang barged into the house.
They attacked Anand with weapons and fled the scene.
Hearing Anand’s cries, neighbors rushed to his aid and took him to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
The R.K. Nagar police moved it to a govt hospital for a postmortem.
Police suspect that the murder was the result of a previous enmity. He was a history-sheeter with several criminal cases against him. The police are further investigating whether he had a fallout with some criminals. A special team has been formed to trace the suspects.
