Chennai: Five district collectors appeared before Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Thursday to tender evidence regarding the money-laundering case inquiry linked to illegal sand mining cases in
Tamil Nadu. Responding to ED summons, and as directed by the Supreme Court, Thangavel (Karur district), Mary Swarna (Ariyalur), Deepak Jacob (Thanjavur), Pradeep Kumar (Trichy) and Subbulakshmi (Vellore) walked into the ED office at Nungambakkam carrying documents and folders at 10.30am on Thursday.
Neither ED nor state govt issued any statement as to the nature of questions posed and the district collectors’ responses.
The collectors were at ED office for about six hours and left by 4.30pm.
On April 25, the Supreme Court rapped their non-appearance in response to ED summons, and warned them of serious consequences if they failed to do so. ED had moved the Supreme Court against a Madras high court order dated Nov 28, 2023 staying ED summons to the five district collectors.
