NRI doc moves HC against deletion of voter names
Chennai: A doctor from Coimbatore working in Australia has moved Madras high court seeking direction to the Election Commission to conduct re-polling for Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency.
R Suthanthira Kannan submitted that he came to Coimbatore from Australia on April 13 to cast his vote on April 19. However, both his name and that of his wife were not on the voters list, his counsel M Mathan Raj stated in the petition.
After giving a representation to the commission, he started to gather information and came to know that a large number of voters’ names had been deleted from the voters list, he said.

“By virtue of the omission, my wife and I have lost our right to vote for the candidate of our choice,” he said and wanted the court to direct the ECI to make arrangements to permit the petitioner and others to cast their votes by including their names in the voters list before June 4.
The plea is likely to be taken up for hearing on Tuesday.
