DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand police registered a case against an unidentified ‘X’ user, under the handle ‘Urban Pahadi’, for allegedly sharing a morphed video of Union home minister Amit Shah on caste-based reservation. Action was taken on Wednesday after the social media monitoring cell of cyber police in Dehradun came across the video circulated in the state, police said.
This comes amid the ongoing probe by Delhi Police in a similar case registered by it. It had served summons to at least three persons including Telangana CM Revanth Reddy. SSP Dehradun, Ajai Singh, said that prima facie, it was found that the video was posted from the account ‘Urban Pahadi’.
“Based on the findings, inspector (in-charge) of cyber cell, filed a complaint in the city’s Kotwali police station, after which, a case was registered on charges of promoting enmity between different groups and communities, undue influence in an election, forgery, statements conducting public mischief and disseminating rumour about a community under relevant sections of IPC and IT Act,” said Singh adding that a probe is on to identify the account user. Social media is being monitored for misinformation likely to disturb law and order during elections,” he added.
