Biker detained after cops seize ₹22 lakh from him
New Delhi: A 31-year-old biker has been detained after recovery of Rs 22 lakh unaccounted cash from him in north Delhi. The cash was handed over to the income tax department and static surveillance teams, while the suspect’s antecedents are being verified, police said.
During a routine picket, a two-wheeler was intercepted around 8pm on Tuesday. "The rider was found carrying a suspicious bag and was stopped.
While searching, it was found that he was carrying 44 bundles in the denomination of Rs 500 notes in the bag,” a senior police officer said.
During the enquiry, the detained person identified himself as Ankur. “He could not satisfactorily explain the origin of the cash raising suspicion that he was only a carrier,” the officer said.
Accordingly, the static surveillance team and Income Tax Department officials were informed, the officer said, adding that Ankur was handed over to them along with the recovered cash, which was counted by the FST team. The recovered cash has been seized by the Income Tax Department officials.
