Must walk together to ‘save country’: Kanhaiya at joint campaign with AAP
New Delhi: Congress and Aam Aadmi Party did a joint campaign on Thursday at Yamuna Vihar in North East Delhi, during which functionaries from both parties shared their insights on how to ensure vote transfer in the alliance.
Congress functionary Subhash Chopra, state president Devender Yadav, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha, AAP MLA Haji Yunus and councillors MLAs and former MLAs from both parties were present along with candidate Kanhaiya Kumar.

“I have experience in the movement, experience in jail, but not in fighting elections in Delhi. You all are more experienced than me. I have a PhD, but you all are political doctors. I want your experience. This is not about winning one seat but about saving the country and the Constitution,” Kumar told party workers of the INDIA alliance who were present.
Talking about the ground-level campaign, he told the party workers that elections become tougher as they get smaller. He said that a corporation election has more challenges than a Lok Sabha election because in that, enmity is carried for life. “If this election is about saving the country, then we will have to make our hearts bigger and try to walk together,” he said.
Terming his relationship with chief minister Kejriwal as “jail bhai,” he claimed that both he and the CM have been in Tihar due to BJP and PM Modi’s conspiracy. “When the village is saved, then we can fight on farmland, so the political workers also need to understand that the fight is against a dictatorship,” he said. He said the alliance is not just for the stage but should be at the booth level and among the voters. “Leave everything aside and worry about booth management,” he said.

He told party workers that they should not wait for orders before carrying out campaign work. “When there is a fire in the house, you do not worry about orders before extinguishing it. Such is the situation now as it is above party. It is now about the country,” he said.
He told the gathering that BJP had spread misinformation about him as they think people do not understand. “But people are asking questions that if he would have spoken against the country then how is he fighting elections twice. You have put the CM in jail and you would have left me (outside) so that every day I will speak eye to eye and ask questions,” he said. “Making fake videos to defame is their old business but common people cannot say anything. Only BJP people will speak,” he said.
He said these people call me “tukde tukde” but in Burari they are breaking people’s dream by bulldozing homes.
North East Delhi has one of the most densely populated areas of the city, with a heavy Poorvanchali and Muslim presence. BJP’s Manoj Tiwari has won the Lok Sabha seat two consecutive times in a three-cornered fight. This time, however, AAP-Congress is hoping to put up a tough fight due to the alliance.
AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha said, “We know the area better. So, we have to go to the people. We know whom we have to approach and tell, whom we have to explain to, and whom we have to persuade. We have to make people understand that they have to vote for Kanhaiya Kumar. We know how clever the person whom we are fighting against is. We need to spend less time on stage and more with people.”
