Constitution isn’t important for Congress, says PM in Goa
PM Narendra Modi addressed a gathering of over 50,000 people at Sancoale in South Goa on Saturday
Vasco:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here on Saturday that for Congress the Constitution holds no value. He said that in order to appease its vote bank, Congress resorts to insulting the Constitution of India,
“With the kind of clarification given by Congress candidate (Viriato Fernandes for South Goa) the hidden agenda of Congress has been exposed. For them, the Constitution holds no significance.
And this isn’t a singular instance, they have talked of disintegrating the country earlier too,” Modi said at an election rally at Sancoale in South Goa.
The Prime Minister further launched a broadside against the INDIA bloc for speaking about restoring Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that while the country kept “burning under terrorism” owing to Article 370, it was his govt that “buried” it in the ground. He said for his friend and former defence minister Manohar Parrikar, this would have been a “matter of joy”.
“INDI alliance is talking about bringing back Article 370. Will you allow it to happen?” he asked the crowd, which responded with an emphatic ‘no’.
He attacked Congress for what he said was its design to bring in reservations based on religion. Congress also faced criticism from Modi for what he said were its plans to impose a 55% inheritance tax.
“The mystery of Congress shehzade is unravelled. He has brought an X-ray machine from abroad by which he intends to assess your wealth and redistribute it among his vote bank,” he said in a jibe at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. “And you know who their vote bank is,” he said without taking any names.

In an attempt to let its potential damage sink in among the crowd, he said, “If a fisherman wants to bequeath two of his boats to his son, he will be able to give only one.” He termed it “Congress ki loot, zindagi ke saath bhi, zindagi ke baad bhi”.
He also reiterated that Congress should apologise for misleading the people over EVMs.
Modi said his govt works with the “saturation approach” and Goa became the best example of this model by accomplishing 100% coverage in providing toilets to houses, electrification, LPG connection, and water supply. He termed it “real secularism” and “real social justice”.
