About 10 lakh Assam youths remained jobless last yr: Borah
Guwahati: Assam PCC president Bhupen Borah on Wednesday alleged that about 10 lakh youths of Assam slipped to the unemployed category in the previous year for which the party has made “demand for employment” as the party slogan in this Lok Sabha election. Congress has also activated its ‘war-room’ at the party headquarters to monitor day-to-day activities of the party across constituencies under the supervision of its young brigade.

“In 2023, about 10 lakh unemployed has increased in Assam. If we don’t discuss about them in this election, when will their concerns be highlighted?” Borah asked, while interacting with the media before embarking on a chopper journey to Diphu for accompanying party candidate Jayram Engleng to file nomination.
“Our demand is employment, we need employment, our policy is employment, our goal is employment. These are our most striking slogans of Congress on behalf of the youth,” he added.
Borah said Assam is far away from becoming self-sufficient in 10 years of BJP rule at the Centre and seven years in Assam. “Egg, fish and gamosa (traditional Assamese scarf) are coming to Assam from outside the state,” he added.
At Congress headquarters Rajiv Bawan here, AICC observer for Assam PCC war room and social media and publicity coordination for LS polls, Rahul Bal, trained his guns at the BJP-led govt while releasing the Assamese version of Congress’s 5 poll guarantees which included ‘first job assured’ for educated youths. The guarantee card says every educated youth will get their first job guaranteed with a payment of Rs 1 lakh, if the Congress comes to power.
