Dhola-Sadiya bridge example of infra revolution in Assam under PM: Pradan
Dibrugarh: BJP candidate for the Lakhimpur Lok Sabha seat, Pradan Baruah, on Thursday said the Dhola-Sadiya bridge over the Brahmaputra is a shining example of the infrastructural revolution that has taken place in Assam under the Narendra Modi govt. It is the country’s longest river bridge spanning 9.15km and was inaugurated by PM Modi in May 2017, marking a significant milestone in connecting the remote region with the rest of the country.

The bridge is also popularly known as the Dr Bhupen Hazarika Setu.
Addressing an election rally in Sadiya, the easternmost region of Assam, Baruah highlighted how the work on the Dhola-Sadiya bridge began in 2011 but was moving at a snail’s pace due to the lack of interest from the previous UPA govt. However, after Modi became PM in 2014, the project picked up pace and was completed within three years, he said.
Citing another example — of the 4.94km-long road-cum-rail of Bogibeel bridge over the Brahmaputra connecting Dibrugarh and Dhemaji districts, Baruah said it further compliments the infrastructural development that has taken place under the Modi govt.
“The Dhola-Sadiya bridge is a shining example of how the Modi govt has transformed infrastructure projects in the northeast. The bridge has not only connected the people of Assam, but also brought about an economic revolution in the region. The Bogibeel bridge, too, has not only improved connectivity but also opened up new opportunities for trade and commerce, creating jobs and boosting the local economy,” Baruah said.

Building upon the narrative, he appealed to the voters to support the BJP in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, emphasising that the good works of the govt need to continue for the region’s development. Baruah expressed confidence in the party’s success, predicting that the BJP will secure more than 400 seats in the elections, reaffirming Narendra Modi’s position as the PM for a third consecutive term.
“Modi govt’s policies have been pro-people, pro-development and pro-Assam. The people of Assam have witnessed unprecedented development under PM Modi. The PM has a vision for Assam, and we need to support him,” Baruah said in his appeal to voters.
