Silchar: A total of 22.164 kilograms of heroin valued around Rs 210 crore was seized, the highest in a single day so far in Assam, from a suspected drug peddler in a joint operation by a special task force (STF) of the
Assam Police and Cachar district police along the National Highway-306 (Silchar-Aizawl stretch) in the Sildoobi area of Cachar district.
Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the police for the successful operation in a post on his X handle.
Cachar SP Numal Mahatta said on Friday a special task force (STF) team led by STF inspector general Partha Sarathi Mahanta carried out an operation on NH-306 at Sildoobi based on intelligence inputs and intercepted a vehicle on Thursday evening.
On searching the vehicle, which has a Mizoram registration plate, 22. 164 kilograms of heroin were found, SP Mahatta said. A man identified as C Lallianhaia (64), a resident of Bawng Kawn in Mizoram’s capital Aizawl, who was in the vehicle, was arrested.
