Lok Sabha elections: Over 10% voter turnout recorded in Assam

Guwahati: Over 10% voter turnout recorded in Assam at 9 am in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections amid inimical weather conditions. Four Lok Sabha constituencies – Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar are undergoing polls in the third phase.
Prestigious Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency recorded 10.38% turnout at 9 am while Dhubri recorded 10.75%, 9.26% in Barpeta and 9.77% in Kokrajhar constituency.

Over 20 lakh voters will cast their votes to decide the fate of eight candidates in Guwahati while over 19 lakh electors will decide the fate of 14 candidates in Barpeta, over 14 lakh voters will vote to elect their representative among 12 candidates and over 26 lakh voters will lock the fate of 13 candidates in Dhubri constituency.
BJP candidate for Guwahati seat Bijuli Kalita Medhi cast her vote along in the morning and appealed to everyone to exercise the democratic right in order to build a healthy democracy while Congress candidate for the seat Mira Borthakur Goswami cast her vote to protect the Constitution of India and saving democracy.
CPM candidate for Barpeta constituency Manoranjan Talukdar and his rival AGP candidate Phani Bhushan Choudhury have also cast their votes. Choudhury exuded confidence of winning while Talukdar appealed to everyone to come out and exercise the democratic right.
Long queues were witnessed in the assembly segments inhabited by tribes and minorities in lower and West Assam districts where polling is being held. Even as polling started at 7 am, in districts like Goalpara, voters started arriving at the polling stations from 5 am in the morning. IMD had issued a 'yellow warning' for the Assam districts where polls were due on Tuesday. Heavy rains lashed many parts of these districts in the last two days.
About 81.49 lakh voters are registered to vote across four constituencies, Guwahati, Barpeta, Dhubri and Kokrajhar which are going to polls on Tuesday. Of them, 41,00,544 are males, 40,48,436 are females and 111 third gender voters.
