Guwahati: “In Assam, Modi’s guarantee and mama’s warranty will work”, said chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma during an election rally in Udalguri before accompanying BJP candidate Dilip Saikia from the Darrang-Udalguri Lok Sabha seat to file his nomination on Thursday.
Sarma is called mama (uncle) by youngsters across the state.
Earlier in the day, he also held a rally in Nagaon and joined Suresh Bora to file his nomination in Nagaon.

He said the state govt will shoulder the responsibility of educating girls up to the postgraduate level, and families with a ration card will get life insurance paid for by govt.
He said, “All girls who pass the Class 10 exam are given a cycle or a scooter. But from this year, Rs 10,000 will be deposited in their bank accounts while they study for the Class 12 boards, Rs 12,500 will be deposited to those who pass Class 12 and takes admission for gradation and Rs 25,000 for those who pursue post-graduation.” He said parents will educate their sons but mama (Himanta) will educate the girls.
Sarma added that while households having ration cards are already getting 5kg free rice, Ujjala gas connection and Ayushman Bharat health card, the head of the family will get life insurance whose premium will be paid by the state govt and a woman member will get the benefits of the ‘Orunodoi’ scheme after the elections.

The CM also announced that 50,000 more recruitments will be done. “Youths across the state ask me to increase posts in the Assam Police. We have already given 1 lakh recruitment in various departments of the state government and 50,000 more will be recruited,” he said, adding, the govt will continue solving other issues.
