Sarma launches scathing attack on Congress on X
Guwahati: Amid a charged political atmosphere in the state and the country, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a scathing attack on the Congress on X, highlighting specific actions of the grand-old party that he believes have weakened the democratic fabric of the nation. Taking a jibe at Congress, Sarma also outlined six “contributions” of the Gandhi family that he believes have had a detrimental effect on the nation.

The “6 contributions of Gandhi family” that Sarma shared on X are “Holidaying in a navy vessel, visiting Babur’s Tomb, boycotting Somanth & Ayodhya, using Sengol as walking stick, sacking a CM from airport, Humiliating Ex-PM after death.”
Sarma’s other post on X, “How Cong weakened democracy?” listed the party’s seven actions —“dismissed 90 state govts, Superseded independent judges, Restricted FoE in 1st amendment, Created pliable Lutyens Media, Undermined PM’s office, JMM bribery to cash for votes, 25 June 1975.”
Outside X, Sarma during a rally in Jorhat predicted that by 2026 Congress in the state will exist just for name’s sake, like Janata Party, CPI and CPI(M). “Congress is suffering from dearth of workers. Their offices are empty. By 2026 in many places Congress will get zero votes,” Sarma said.
