Over 13L to vote in Silchar seat, nearly half women
Silchar: In a concerted effort to ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming election in the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency (SC) of Assam, patrolling is being carried out in the area, district commissioner-cum-returning officer Rohan Kumar Jha and Cachar superintendent of police Numal Mahatta said on Tuesday. Silchar goes to the polls on April 26.
Mahatta said, “A survey is going on to determine the number of sensitive polling stations.
We are conducting regular patrolling. The security arrangements at the polling stations will be strictly followed as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.”
The officials said the cumulative electorate count for Silchar is 13,51,496 — 6,76,331 males, 6,75,141 females and 24 voters belonging to the third gender — across 1,551 polling stations. This figure may change owing to Form 6 (for new voters) and Form 8 (for shifting). There will be 210 all-women polling stations and 35 model polling stations.
The number of voters above the age of 100 is 105. There are 7,102 PWD and 12,978 octogenarian voters. Moreover, 27,027 will vote for the first time.
