Belagavi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief minister Siddaramaiah are set to hold election rallies in Belagavi district on Sunday, both campaigning for their respective party candidates.
PM Modi is scheduled to address a BJP rally in Malini City at 10 am today, where he will campaign for the party's Belgaum candidate Jagadish Shettar and Chikkodi candidate Annasaheb Jolle.
BJP office bearers have confirmed that no roadshow has been planned in the city.
Coinciding with PM Modi's rally, CM Siddaramaiah will also be holding rallies in support of the Congress candidate for Chikkodi segment, Priyanka Jarkiholi, at Ugar Khurd in Kagawad taluk and in Rainapur village of Yargatti taluk in favour of Belgaum Congress candidate Mrinal Hebbalkar on the same day.
Security arrangementsIn the backdrop of PM Modi’s visit to Belagavi city on Saturday and Sunday, authorities have taken extensive security measures throughout Belagavi city and taluk as well.
As part of security arrangements, deputy commissioner Nitesh Patil has issued an order prohibiting the use of drones within Belagavi taluk until Sunday afternoon. Furthermore, the entire taluk has been classified as a red zone.
BJP functionaries including Jagadish Shettar and MLA Abhay Patil visited Malini City, the venue where PM Modi's public rally and inspected the preparations.
Traffic divertedBelagavi city police have made arrangements for Prime Minister Modi's rally by diverting traffic on several roads until Sunday afternoon and designating parking areas for vehicles attending the event. The city police commissioner's release states that both service roads of the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway-4 from Honaga to Suvarna Vidhana Soudha (SVS) and the Belagavi-Bagalkot Road will be closed until Sunday noon, and commuters are advised to take alternative routes.
Vehicles coming to Belagavi from Kolhapur and Nippani are instructed to use the road via Sankeshwar and Hukkeri, taking a right turn near Ram Dhabha before entering the city. Similarly, vehicles arriving from Dharwad via MK Hubli should use the Neginahal/Nesaragi/Bhendigeri cross route. Commuters travelling from Bagalkot to Belagavi are advised to use the Nesaragi-Gokak Road.
Buses of the road transport department travelling on Bagalkot, Raichur, and Yaragatti routes are directed to use the Kanabargi, Sulebhavi, and Marihal routes. These traffic diversions and parking arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth traffic flow and accommodate the large number of vehicles expected to attend the prime minister's rally.
