HYDERABAD: At least five people were killed in rain-related incidents in Medak, Siddipet, Sangareddy and Warangal districts as Tuesday evening's heavy rain and wind wreaked havoc across the state.
Two construction workers, V Subrahamanyam (42) and M Nagu (37), were killed in a wall collapse in Rayalapur village of Medak district on Tuesday night. The under-construction wall collapsed due to the impact of the strong rain and wind.
In Kukunoorpalliy in Siddipet, a farmer Mallesham (36) was killed when he was struck by lightning.
Mallesham was on his way to his farm to milch his cows when it started to rain. He ran to take protection under a tree, but died when struck by lightning.
Another farmer of Erraram village in Andhole mandal in Sangareddy district died when struck by lightning too. Boyini Papaiah was brining home his cattle from his farm on the outskirts of the village when lightning struck.
A 22-year-old youth Ambarla Dayakar died when a tree collapsed on the tractor in which he was going with a friend. The incident took place on Tuesday evening at Katyala village in Wardhannapet mandal of Warangal.
Meanwhile, power supply was hit across as electric poles were uprooted at some places, while at others, tin sheds were blown away. In market yards across the state, paddy which was brought to be sold got wet. Standing paddy crop was also reportedly destroyed. The estimated crop loss is yet to be assessed by officials. Officials in Karimnagar on Wednesday assured farmers that paddy would be procured at MSP even with the damage caused due to the rain.
