HYDERABAD: While it has been more than three years since Telangana EV policy was drafted, the state still lacks adequate charging infrastructure.
At present there are 510 charging stations in the state of which only 52 belong to the govt. The rest are all privately run. In fact, these 52 stations were set up within Greater Hyderabad under the central govt’s FAME II scheme.

In all, Hyderabad has 195 charging stations (govt and private) and another 19 battery swapping facilities located in different parts of the city.
Nationally, Maharashtra has the highest number of EV charging stations in the country with more than 3,000 charging stations, followed by Delhi (1,886) and Karnataka (1,041). Together, there are over 12,000 public charging stations in India.
According to the Telangana State Renewable Development Corporation (TSREDCO), the state nodal agency for implementing EV infrastructure, 150 charging stations were allocated under FAME II out of which 52 are in operation, while they are waiting for electricity connection for another 30.
“We are finding it difficult to get suitable locations for setting up new charging stations. The land parcels we found earlier were not viable and easily accessible to the public. We require up to 500 square feet of land for setting up an EV station. We are requesting the state govt to expedite the process,” said a senior official from TSREDCO.
