HYDERABAD: The BJP has filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) over alleged illegal detention of BJP workers during door-to-door campaign and assault on Kotha Venkatesham, BJP divison president, and workers at the Borabanda police station.
BJP has demanded immediate transfer of west zone deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Vijaya Kumar and Borabanda SHO Bhupal Gowd.

In the complaint, BJP leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy said, “Five BJP workers were quietly going on a door-to-door campaign in Peddamma Nagar in Borabanda when a police patrol party reached the spot and took them into illegal custody on the grounds that they had not taken permission though it is not needed as per ECI norms.”
He said that when local BJP division president Venkatesham and some colleagues reached the Borabanda police station, the DCP west zone came there and abused them.
“The DCP also directed DI Borabanda PS and other policemen to throw the BJP workers out. DI Bhupal Gowd manhandled Venkatesham who suffered bleeding injuries on the lower lip and the neck. Thereafter, Kilari Manohar, vice president of the Hyderabad central district BJP committee, reached the Borabanda police station. He was informed by police that the workers were taken into custody as they were campaigning without permission. Manohar contacted the assistant returning officer for Secunderabad to inform him about the illegal action who later directly told the SHO to release them as they were not required to take any police permission.”
“A written complaint was filed with the Boraband SHO but that was not registered. On the contrary, a case has been registered on BJP workers,” he alleged.
