Hyderabad: The Hyderabad metropolitan development authority (HMDA) has suspended the building permission for the residential complex in Bachupally following the collapse of a retaining wall that resulted in the loss of seven lives.
The suspension was a result of the builder/developer’s non-compliance with essential safety measures. To reinstate the permission, the HMDA has directed the builder to obtain a structural stability certificate from JNTU for the structure built on the ground.
Previously, HMDA had granted approval for a residential building permission for a single block with amenities for an additional 5th floor located at Bachupally village under Nizampet municipal corporation in Medchal-Malkajgiri district, covering an area of 3,539 sq meters.
During an inspection on Wednesday, HMDA officials noted that the recently constructed retaining wall on the southern side had collapsed due to heavy rainfall on May 7, falling on temporary sheds built for labourers outside the site.
HMDA officials stated that the builder’s failure to adhere to safety measures during construction led to the issuance of a show cause notice, cancelling the building permission. The builder has been asked to provide an explanation regarding the incident within seven days.
