Restore Cong’s glory in Medak, Revanth to cadre
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday exhorted party workers to restore the glory of Congress in the prestigious Medak Lok Sabha seat once represented by the late PM Indira Gandhi.
Addressing a meeting on strategy for Medak, Revanth said Congress can wrest the seat from BRS as it had lost the trust of the people and BJP was not a formidable force in the state.
The people of Medak stood by Indira Gandhi in 1980 and the Congress when the latter needed it, Revanth said. The people of Telangana share a special bond with the Gandhi family as a result of which they voted the Congress to victory in 2023 assembly polls after Sonia Gandhi promised ‘six guarantees’ at the Tukkuguda public meeting on Sept 17 last year, he said.
“Go to the people and explain to them that the Congress has started implementing five of six guarantees and many other promises including interest-free loans for women self-help groups within 100 days of coming to power despite the previous BRS govt leaving the state burdened with over Rs 7 lakh crore debt,” he said. The CM said all the internal party surveys have so far indicated Congress having the best prospects to win the Medak seat this time. “Work as a team. There is a feel-good factor among people for the Congress due to its 100 days’ performance,” he said.
The Congress has fielded Neelam Madhu Mudiraj, a BC leader. Already, BC welfare association national president and RS MP R Krishnaiah has appealed to the community to ensure Neelam’s victory. The BJP has nominated former MLA M Raghunandan Rao and the BRS has fielded ex-bureaucrat P Venkatrama Reddy instead of sitting MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy who has won as MLA from Dubbak in assembly polls.
BRS has been winning the seat since 2004 and even former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao represented it in 2014. The LS seat includes assembly constituencies of Gajwel and Siddipet which are represented by KCR and T Harish Rao. In last year’s assembly poll, BRS won six of seven assembly seats under Medak LS seat and Congress won the lone seat of Medak.
