Thrissur: Ron Solomon of Perakam village near Pavaratty here has won A+ in all subjects in the SSLC examination battling unfathomable constraints.
Both his parents, Cheeran Solomon and Siby Solomon, are hearing and speech impaired while he and his younger brother Rishon Solomon can hear and speak.
For Solomon and his wife, even feeding their babies was a complex task as they were not able to hear when their babies cried for food.
The couple used to sleep with the door of their room half-opened. Siby’s mother Elsy used to keep a stick near the door and tickle Siby on her feet whenever children cried, said Ron’s uncle Shaji.
Another agonising aspect of Ron’s early life was that his parents could not respond vocally when he and his brother call them as ‘Appa and ‘Amma’, and it was only after they grew up little more that they realized about their parents’ disabilities. But eventually he reconciled to that and picked up sign language to communicate with the parents.
Teachers at M R Raman Memorial Higher Secondary School, Chavakkad, were also supportive.
Ron said he used to devote only limited time for studies during non-exam days.
“I was not sure whether I would get A Plus in all subjects as biology, chemistry and physics were tough,’’ Ron said.
