Kolhapur: A food safety officer of Food and Drug Administration was caught red handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while taking a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a hotel owner at Kini village on Pune-Bengaluru national highway.
Deputy superintendent of police, ACB, Sardar Nale, said, “On March 15, Kirti Deshmukh, the food safety officer of Hatkanangale region, inspected the restaurant, took food samples and demanded a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to take no action.
After negotiations, the complainant decided to pay Rs 70,000. He was supposed to give the first installment of Rs 25,000 on Friday at the parking lot of Deshmukh’s residence.”
He filed a complaint with the ACB, after which a trap was laid. As she collected the cash, the team caught her.
“Our team searched Deshmukh’s residence to seize 800g of gold, Rs 3.5 lakh, a diamond necklace worth Rs 4 lakh, a four-wheeler and a flat,” Nale said.
ACB has also sealed Deshmukh’s flat in Mohol tehsil of Solapur district.
Nale said further investigations were on.
