KOLKATA: Two farmers lost their lives due to lightning strikes in southern West Bengal on Sunday. In Tarakeswar, Hooghly district, a 26-year-old man named Lakshman Malik was struck while working in the field during rains.
In Gaighata, North 24 Parganas district, Nepal Halder, 38, met with the same fate while working in a field. The sudden rains brought relief from the recent heatwave conditions, lowering the temperature in the region.
