KOZHIKODE: A group of people allegedly vandalised a local office of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) in Pantheeramkav, citing power outages in their area, according to police reports on Saturday. The incident occurred amidst widespread complaints of unannounced power cuts across the state. Employees of the KSEB unit filed a complaint with the police, claiming that their office was attacked and vandalized late Friday night.
The Pantheeramkavu police have initiated an investigation into the incident after receiving the complaint from the KSEB staff.
"We went to the incident site and collected details. We are trying to collect CCTV visuals of the incident," a police officer stated. The authorities will take appropriate action based on the evidence gathered, although no case has been registered thus far.
Kerala has been experiencing a severe heatwave, leading to a significant increase in power consumption recently. Frustrated by the unexpected power outages, particularly during the night, local residents have staged protests in front of KSEB offices in various parts of the state over the past few days.
In response to the situation, the state government clarified that the frequent power cuts at night were due to technical issues caused by the increased consumption. The authorities have also appealed to consumers to exercise self-control while using electricity to help alleviate the problem.
