GOPALGANJ: Two
Bihar Police constables lost their lives, and more than twelve others were wounded when a container truck, traveling at high speed, collided with the rear of their van in Gopalganj district, Bihar, on Sunday afternoon. The police personnel were en route to Supaul for election duty related to the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls when the accident occurred near Barhima Bazar.
"The van carrying policemen on election duty had halted near Barhima Bazar when a speeding container truck rammed into it from behind. Two policemen died on the spot and over a dozen sustained injuries.
According to a statement released by the Superintendent of Police's office in Gopalganj, the injured individuals have been transported to the closest government medical facility and are reported to be in stable condition. The local police have taken possession of the container truck involved in the incident.
The two deceased constables have been identified as Ashok Kumar Uraon from Punea and Pawan Mahto from Bettiah, both members of the Bihar Police force.
A local police officer stated that the container truck driver fled the scene following the accident, and further investigations are currently underway.
