Cops to pay ₹15L to family of man who died due to delay in med aid
Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission has directed Navi Mumbai police to pay Rs 15 lakh as compensation to the family of a contract painter who had approached them with an assault complaint but succumbed to injuries due to a delay on the part of cops in shifting him to hospital, reports Vijay V Singh.
On Sept 9, 2022, Ramsingh Chavan had gone to Kharghar police station to file a case against 3 people who had attacked him earlier in the day.
By then, the suspects had lodged a complaint. Chavan was asked to sit near a washroom for 3 hours, resulting in him collapsing. “The delay in providing treatment is apparent as the panel itself has seen video clips showing him sitting in an uncomfortable position asking for water and complaining of chest pain. But the officer woke up from his slumber only after the man fell unconscious,” the panel said.
