MUMBAI: In a shocking incident of domestic violence, a 34-year-old woman named Gudiya Fayyum Khan was brutally assaulted by her husband in Kurla, Mumbai. The assault was so severe that she is now fighting for her life at Sion hospital. The incident occurred on Thursday morning when the accused, Mohammed Fayyum Khan, woke up and demanded breakfast from his wife.
When Gudiya informed him that his breakfast was not ready, Khan became enraged and started hitting her on the head with a hammer, threatening to "eliminate her and surrender before the police."
The violence escalated as Khan proceeded to attack his wife with a knife, slashing her neck until she lost consciousness. He also assaulted her with a screwdriver. It was only when Gudiya raised an alarm that neighbors came to her rescue. Initially, Khan took his injured wife to a nearby clinic in Kurla Garden, but due to the severity of her wounds, the local doctor advised him to take her to Babha hospital. As it was a medico-legal case, the doctors at Babha hospital informed the Kurla police about the incident. However, by the time the police arrived, the accused had already fled the scene.
The Kurla police have registered an attempt to murder case against Mohammed Fayyum Khan, who is reportedly a readymade garment seller and has two grown-up children, a son and a daughter. The incident has once again highlighted the prevalence of domestic violence and the urgent need for stricter laws and support systems for victims. As Gudiya Fayyum Khan battles for her life, the police are actively searching for her husband, who remains at large.
