NEW DELHI: Three women were arrested after a video went viral showing them in an inebriated state, causing a commotion and engaging in a physical altercation with the police in Virar, Palghar, Maharashtra. The footage, which has been widely circulated on social media, captured the accused women verbally abusing and physically manhandling the police officers on duty.
The local authorities acted promptly, and a case was registered against the individuals involved.
The charges brought forth under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) include sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation).
Following the registration of the case, the women were arrested and taken into custody. They were produced before the Vasai court on Monday, where the judge ordered them to be placed in police custody for one day.
