Knife-wielding criminal goes on rampage, held

Nagpur: Notorious criminal Shaikh Alfaz alias Suraj Kamble triggered panic in the Bhilgaon area on Wednesday as he chased a man with a knife in hand after an argument over a petty issue at a salon.
Raghtate had a miraculous escape as he suffered injuries on the right shoulder. Raghtate had gone to a salon at Bhilgaon where Alfaz landed up. Trying to strike up a conversation, Alfaz thumped Raghtate on the head.
Miffed by the uninvited physical advances by a stranger, Raghtate shouted out at the salon owner.
Angered by Raghtate’s confrontation, Alfaz brandished a knife and tried to stab Raghtate. Though stunned by the attack, Raghtate managed to escape from the salon while Alfaz chased him.
Raghtate managed to dodge Alfaz by sneaking inside a house. After Alfaz went away from the area, Raghtate stepped out and approached the Yashodhara Nagar police station.
Alfaz, who was in jail in a murder case, managed to get bail in January this year. After stepping out from the jail, Alfaz was slapped with preventive actions immediately and released on bond of ‘good conduct’, said senior inspector of Yashodhara Nagar police station Dnyaneshwar Bhedodkar.
Police said Alfaz was arrested for a brutal murder in 2022 by Yashodhara Nagar police. He was also involved in dacoity, and armed robbery cases committed under the Saoner police jurisdiction. Sources stated Alfaz also has offences against him at Kamptee.
In the fresh case, Alfaz has been booked for attempt to murder by the Yashodhara Nagar police station.
