Pune: The NCC directorate of
Maharashtra has decided to increase the strength of cadets and induct instructors soon as a part of its overall expansion plan.
The decision was taken at the annual training conference held at NCC Group headquarters in Pune on Friday.
Major General Yogender Singh, the additional director general of Maharashtra directorate, chaired the conference.
“The roadmap for the training of NCC cadets for the next training year was discussed at length, including the expansion plan that has been approved by the Ministry of Defence (MoD),” said a senior NCC officer.
The state has seven NCC Group headquarters, with a strength of 1.2 lakh junior and senior division cadets. Several schools have not been able to start NCC units due to shortage of NCC instructors.
“The ministry has approved hiring/recruitment of ex-servicemen as instructors. The recruitment process will begin soon,” said a senior NCC officer.
“As per the plan, the directorate will increase the strength of cadets by 10,000 to 12,000 annually. Considering this rate, it has decided to create necessary infrastructure and logistics and recruit instructors, staff etc to conduct highest standard of NCC training in each unit,” added the officer.
The Maharashtra NCC directorate has been performing exceptionally well in the country. It has won the prestigious Prime Minister banner for three consecutive years.
“The Maharashtra directorate has maintained its high standard of NCC training in all three services — Army, Navy and Air Force. It gives flying exposure to junior and senior cadets to motivate them to pursue careers in the armed forces. As a result, the expansion plan is crucial not only for the state but also for the armed forces,” said another army officer on condition of anonymity.
The Pune Group headquarters was adjudged the “Best Group Banner” at the culmination of the conference. Its Naval and Air units were also awarded for their exceptional performance.
