Rajkot: Savarkundla town of Amreli district on Thursday woke up to the news of a grisly murder of a 50-year-old woman by her daughter-in-law and her mother late on Wednesday night.
The deceased, Beena Pathak's son Vaibhav, who works as a senior executive with India's leading private bank, saw her lying in a pool of blood late on Wednesday night when he returned from office in Rajula town, some 40 km from Savarkundla.
As soon he entered and saw the body in pool of blood, his
wife Shweta and her mother Sonal Shastri threw chilli powder in his eyes and fled. Vaibhav ran out screaming for help after which neighbours gathered and called the police.
Shweta, 27 and her 47-year-old mother were arrested by the Savarkundla City police.
During preliminary interrogation, Shweta said she was extremely fed up with her mother-in-law's relentless taunts and restrictions like going out of the house alone.
"It's a pre-planned murder. Shweta and her mother slit Beena's neck using an electric cutter. Sonal had gone to live at Vaibhav's house on May 6," AM Parmar, inspector, Savarkundla police station, told TOI.
Vaibhav and Shweta got married some eight-nine months ago and it was the latter's second marriage. The probe also revealed that her mother Sonal also married for the second time while Beena's husband died about 11 years ago.
"Shweta said she felt deprived of marital happiness and frustrated by her mother-in-law's constant disparagement. As her mother also married for the second time, she was not comfortable going to her parental home," Parmar said.
