RAJKOT: The decomposed body of a 26-year-old, who was murdered allegedly by family members of a woman with whom he had eloped on May 4, was recovered from a village near temple town Chotila of Surendranagar district late on Wednesday night.
Police arrested six people including the woman's father Pravin Mesariya, his brother and four other relatives on the complaint lodged by the deceased Dilip Vaghela's father Mulabhai with the Chotila police station.
Dilip and the Mesariya's daughter were in a relationship for eight months, and they eloped from Devasar village where the former had been living to oversee the construction of his new house.
On May 4, they eloped as the woman's family was bitterly opposed to their relationship due to caste differences. However, Mesariya and his relatives traced them and allegedly killed Dilip. They disposed of the body in Rajavad village near Chotila.
Meanwhile, Dilip's father got a call from one of the accused Govind informing him that they had traced their daughter. When he inquired about Dilip, Govind said that he should forget his son and "dogs and crows would have fed on his body by now." Before Mulabhai could ask further, he disconnected the call.
On Wednesday, Dilip's father went to Rajavad village on coming to know that some decomposed body had been recovere and identified it.
Deputy superintendent of police, Limbdi, Vishal Rabari said, "We have arrested Mesariya and others of his family for murder."
