Shillong: Mazel Ampareen Lyngdoh, the candidate of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) and minister for health and family welfare, filed her nomination papers for the prestigious Shillong Lok Sabha constituency on Friday.
“In filing my nomination for the Shillong Lok Sabha constituency, I commit to prioritize the prosperity of our state and the empowerment of every citizen.
It is time to showcase the formidable capabilities and leadership of women in Meghalaya,” the only woman in the state cabinet said after filing her papers in the office of the district magistrate here.
“This nomination is more than a candidacy. It’s a pledge to uphold the ideals of inclusive governance and progressive leadership. I am ready to be the change we seek for a brighter, equitable Meghalaya,” she said.
Earlier in the morning, Ampareen paid floral tributes at the bust of her father, the late PG Marbaniang, who was a stalwart in state politics.
“Embracing the profound influence of my father’s legacy, I stand poised to file my nomination for the upcoming MP elections, buoyed by his enduring wisdom and the lessons of a lifetime spent in service. I carry forward his commitment to our community, seeking to build upon his contributions and deliver tangible progress for all. Today, I pay homage to his memory, knowing that with each step I take, I honour not just his name, but the values he instilled in me, propelling me forward with purpose and passion,” she posted on the social media.
CM Conrad K Sangma, who is president of the NPP, in a social media post said, “Our candidate for Shillong Lok Sabha constituency Dr M. Ampareen Lyngdoh filed her nomination today. This election is very important for the NPP and as Meghalayan’s we have to demonstrate our strength and regard for our women...”
