Surat: At least 10 samples of ice cream collected from various shops in the city were found unfit for consumption, according to a report released on Thursday. The samples were tested at Public Health Laboratory of Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC). Following this, 87 kg of seized ice cream was destroyed.
Health teams of SMC collected samples from various shops in the city during a drive between April 30 and May 2.
The samples were sent for testing and its results were declared on Thursday. The majority of the shops whose samples failed manufacture their ice cream locally.
“As per the standards, the ice cream should have milk fat above 10% and total solids should be 36%. But in the samples collected, the standards were not maintained,” said SMC health official.
Complaints will be filed against the shop owners in the office of the adjudicating officer in the district collector’s office. Based on the findings of the samples and inspection report of SMC health team the shop owners will be fined accordingly.
