Surat: A court in Ankleshwar has awarded a life term to a 32-year-old man for raping a 12-year-old girl in Ankleshwar GIDC area in 2022. Accused Rohit Thakur was also fined Rs 30,000 which would be paid to the minor girl, along with Rs 1 lakh from ‘victim compensation scheme’.
After raping the girl thrice, Thakur had tried to kill the girl by strangulating her.
On the day of the crime, Thakur lured the girl with chocolate while she was playing near her home. He told her to come to his home to peel garlic for which she would be paid Rs 10 for buying a chocolate. After the girl went to his home, he raped her there. He increased the volume of the TV so that her screams could not be heard.
The accused tied her legs before raping so that the girl could not run out of the house. When someone knocked on the door, the accused tried to kill her by strangulating her.
As the knocking continued, the accused threatened the girl and asked her to hide herself under the bed. Thakur’s sister-in-law came to know about the incident and told the girl’s mother about it. Soon she reached Thakur’s home and rescued her daughter.
Ankleshwar GIDC police arrested Thakur and booked him under relevant sections.
