THANE: A 40-year-old man from Ulwe area in Navi Mumbai township was taken into custody by the police on Sunday for allegedly sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl who lived in the same building as the accused. The incident occurred on Saturday evening when the victim visited the accused's house to play.
The police revealed that the accused had previously sexually assaulted the girl, displayed inappropriate images to her, and instructed her to keep the incidents a secret.
Following the most recent offense on Saturday, the girl confided in her mother about the abuse.
The victim's parents subsequently lodged a complaint with the police, leading to the arrest of the accused. The police have registered a case against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including "376 (rape), 376(2)(j)(n) (rape of a female under 12 years of age or a woman incapable of giving consent), 376AB (rape of female under 12 years of age) and 506 (criminal intimidation)" as well as relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
