Dr Vandana case: Hearing on acquittal plea on May 22
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kollam additional sessions court posted the acquittal plea filed by Sandeep, the accused in the Dr Vandana Das murder, for hearing on May 22. Police have already filed the chargesheet before the court and the argument on this will also begin on May 22.
Dr Vandana Das, a Kottayam native, was murdered on May 10 last year at Kottarakara taluk hospital when she was on duty at the emergency wing.
Sandeep had stabbed her using the surgical scissors. Sandeep filed a plea before the court seeking acquittal in the case as he claimed that it was due to the sheer negligence on part of the policemen on duty that the murder had occurred.
Ahead of the commencement of trial proceedings in the Kollam additional sessions court, Sandeep, who is in judicial custody, was produced before the court on Thursday.
The defendant filed the discharge petition challenging the allegations in the chargesheet. It is stated in the petition that the accused has committed only one charge of trying to harm Dr Vandana. The scissor injuries are not fatal, and the health workers and police could not provide care on time for Dr Vandana, his counsel pointed out.
