Power situation satisfactory, no loadshedding for now
T'PURAM: A high-level meeting chaired by power minister K Krishnankutty to review power crisis in the state has expressed satisfaction over the efficiency of regional restrictions put in place for real-time management of power consumption during peak hours.
In view of the same, the meeting expressed confidence to tide over the crisis without resorting to statewide load shedding, at least for the time being.
Following consultations with large-scale power consumers, Kerala Water Authority, lift irrigation and public sector units, the demand for power during peak hours has come down by 117 MW. Several private companies have reciprocated positively to KSEB demand, by avoiding shift duty during peak hours, the minister said. The meeting also discussed availability of transformers, transformer oil and energy meters.
The KSEB director said steps were initiated to address shortage of energy meters.
Board officials also informed the meeting about lifting of restrictions imposed earlier for purchase of equipment locally in case of emergency.
The minister has asked officials to take steps to rectify technical and electrical issues in distribution networks in areas that were worse hit on account of the highest power consumption in the state during the ongoing summer.
The meeting expressed confidence to tide over the crisis if the consumption remains below 5800 MW.
