Trichy: Nearly 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery were stolen from three people in separate incidents in Samayapuram area in Trichy.
A Senthil, 55, of Reddipatti in Namakkal district in his complaint on Friday, said that he visited the Samayapuram Mariamman temple for the temple car festival on Apr 16. He was wearing a five sovereign gold chain. In the midnight, he parked his car and slept inside the vehicle.
When he woke up, he found the gold chain missing.
Senthil lodged a complaint 10 days later. Acting on his complaint, police registered a case of theft. T Shenbagavalli, 60, of Omandhur in Mannachanallur taluk in her complaint also mentioned that she had visited the Samayapuram temple for the car festival on Apr 16, where she lost her 4.5 sovereign gold chain. She also submitted the complaint only on Friday.
In another incident, A Lakshmi, 60, of Mahalikudi in Samayapuram in a complaint filed on Friday, said that she sells fruits near old Mudimandapam outside the Samayapuram Mariamman temple premises. On the night of April 22, she kept her quarter sovereign gold ring, 25g silver bracelet and chain and 2,000 cash in a purse and slept in the shop. When she woke up, in the early hours, she found the valuables missing.
